Presentation

First Session — Preparation
This session has got it all! You will model a shape for a 'one-part' mould, and then create the physical mould using plaster of paris. This will allow you to press the shape many times, playing with its construction and form.

Second Session — Texture
We will use your mould to make multiple objects. They will all be unique as we will experiment with 'combustibles' – adding natural elements to the clay (e.g. rice) which burn away during firing, to leave surprising textures!

Third Session — Glazing
You will return to find your heavily textured pieces fired and ready for glaze. After a quick re-fresh of glazing techniques, you can add colour to your pieces concentrating on highlighting their amazing surfaces.

Spaghetti / lentils / rice

The group begin to pack their moulds with clay that had natural combustibles rolled in. There was loads to experiment with, from spaghetti to lentils to rice... always a messy affair. The resulting textures were fantastic!
